Seirbheis Saor-thoileach Ìle is Diùra.1969 to 2008Islay and Jura CVS has been established for 39 years with a role to work with the communities of Islay and Jura in creating opportunities that improve the quality of life through voluntary sector development, economic, cultural and environmental changes. The CVS works to encourage wider understanding of the importance and value of the work of community groups and community action. I am personally asking for your help in supporting this very important campaign/petition as we are also concerned about the effect of rising fuel costs are having on all voluntary organisations. What is the CVS busy at just now? LEADER applications success - see NEWS section Janet Waterworth has successfully completed the Association of Chartered Independent Examiners course to enable her to undertake independent financial reviews of organisations accounts to comply with OSCR regulations. She can undertake such reviews with organisations whose annual income is up to £100,000. The CVS will make small charge to defray expenses for any organisation wishing to make use of the serviceJohn Davidson has recently undertaken training lead by Ediburgh Voluntary Organisations Council (EVOC) and the charity regulator (OSCR). Arising from this the CVS are now in a position to offer a full and comprehensive service to small and medium sized local voluntary organisations covering Governance, financial management and regulatory compliance This is just a quick note to all of you to draw attention to a course(s) that the CVS intends to run in partnership with other business organisations. The CVS has been approached about running a course to help Directors and Trustees of charitable companies on the islands to understand their role and function and statutory duties. The material for the course has been developed by the CVS, OSCR, EVOC and the Scottish Council of Voluntary Organisations and is used extensively throughout Scotland. If you or any of your Board members might be interested in attending such a course, please get in touch The contact details are listed across the page. If there is enough interest to run a course then views on suitable times and venues will be circulated to make sure that it takes place at the most convenient and suitable time for as many people to take part as possible.
