Helensburgh and Lomond Voluntary Sector Forum
A feasibility study was carried out by Eileen McCrory of Argyll CVS into the need for a Voluntary Sector Forum in the Helensburgh and Lomond Area. The questions and statistical analysis of the findings can be viewed here. CONCLUSIONS- This Feasibility Study has clearly identified the need for a Voluntary Sector Forum to provide an efficient focal point of communication and to ensure the sustainability of voluntary groups and the strengthening of community involvement.
- 94% of respondents agree that a voluntary sector forum is long overdue and should be established.
- A massive 94% said they would be prepared to participate in a local voluntary sector forum
- 94% have expressed a willingness to be part of a focus group to establish a voluntary sector forum locally.
- Various training needs have been identified and there is a sense that not only should voluntary organisations partake in training, but also Council Officers!
- The Local Authority has offered to assist in providing support for training needs identified.
- There is scope for further partnership working countywide and discussions could conceivably result on contractual work with the Local Authority
RECOMMENDATIONS- In order to ensure sustainability of the local voluntary sector, an efficient communication network such as a local Voluntrary Sector Forum should be established.
- A full training programme should be devised and delivered to relevant organisations/partners
- Argyll Communities Website should be promoted across the County to ensure that voluntary organisations are reaching the wider community.
