The Argyll and the Islands area is home to three community radio stations with a fourth on the way! Oban FM covers, as the name suggests, the North Argyll area around the coastal port of Oban and the Firth of Lorn. It has been broadcasting since July 1996 and this makes it the 'Old Dame' of the community radio pack. Its programmes are produced by volunteers, and the diversity of these programmes reflects the diversity of interests within the community. The list includes Scottish country dance music and the classics, jazz and current pop, celtic rock and big band sounds. Frequency: 103.3 Web Site: www.obanfm.org
Argyll FM broadcasts from Campbeltown in South Kintyre and can be picked up in Arran, Islay, Jura and, on a good day, in Northern Ireland. Like all of our community radio stations it's programmes are produced completely by voluntary staff members. It is the most southerly radio stations in Scotland. It commenced full time broadcasting in July 2000 although like Oban FM it had hit the airwaves previously under trial Restricted Service Licences (RSL). It provides mainstream chart music, news, features and community information. Frequency: 106.5,107.1,107.7 Web Site: www.argyllfm.org
