| World Cafe Event in Garelochhead |

As a Follow-up to the VSF feaasibility study, Eileen McCrory of Argyll CVS will be hosting a "World Cafe" event, Saturday 1st March, 1.30 - 3.30pm, Gibson Halls, Garelochhead.
Those groups who responded to the survey last year (21 in total) along with local Councillors and Strathclyde Fire & Rescue Service have been invited
The focus group will discuss the following:
benefits of a VSF,
how it should be funded,
what structure it should take,
who should be involved,
ways of avoiding dupication of effort etc.
Aimed at making the community more confident in expressing it's views, "World Cafe" is an innovative way of enhancing collaborative thinking about critical issues by linking small groups in conversation.

Refreshments will be provided and transport can be arranged.

| Future Secured by a Principle |

For many years, funding for the 55 Councils of Voluntary Services (CVS’s) across Scotland has been subjected to an unpredictable investment plan that seems misaligned with Government’s vision. CVS’s deliver support to charities and other voluntary organisations to help them with constitutions, funding applications, and legal and the many other obligations placed upon small groups delivering essential services to the community. Some CVS’s have had to close, others limp on, delivering what service they can with limited resources. Argyll CVS has had its equal share of pressure to survive. But despite considerable efforts at ministerial level Argyll CVS had to allow the funding that remains to be spent in the wisest and most responsible way.
Peter Minshall, the CEO, said “I discussed with the board of ACVS that their responsibility was to fund a service that focussed on core CVS services. Clearly that was to ensure that Outreach Workers in the regeneration areas of Helensburgh and Kintyre should be retained and that my position would have to be dismantled if there was to be any salvaging of the situation.” The Board decided that this offered a course of action that would allow Argyll CVS to continue. This means the services offered in Kintyre and Helensburgh will remain, as will the development of the Argyll Communities Web site and on-line directory, albeit in a downsized and reduced hours operation.
David Price the Chairman of Argyll CVS said “What Peter Minshall has done is to put the interests of ACVS ahead of his own and his family. The board and staff of ACVS recognise that, to a great extent, the future of ACVS has been secured by Peter’s selfless and helpful attitude. ”
Peter said “This is of course a bit of a shame after nineteen years in the voluntary sector in the west of Scotland; but I believe life is a about making a positive contribution and that principle comes with responsibility.”
The Chairman went onto say “Through Peter Minshall’s actions, and with the continued and loyal support of ACVS staff who have accepted a reduction in their working hours, ACVS can now hopefully make it through to the next financial year and continue to provide assistance to voluntary groups. We will be very sorry to see Peter go after so much strategic effort on his part and if we survive, we hope his contribution to the voluntary sector in Argyll could be utilised again in the future.” | |
| Helensburgh and Lomond Feasibility Study completed |

The results of the Feasibility Study carried out by Eileen McCrory of Argyll CVS into the need for a Voluntary Sector Forum in the Helensburgh and Lomond area have concluded that there is overwhelming support for this from voluntary organisations in the area.

Argyll Council for Voluntary Services, now an independent charitable company limited by guarantee, held its first AGM in the offices of Fyne Homes. The Chairman Bill Dalziel welcomed David Price as a new Director to the Board. David is the Chairman of Argyll & Bute Volunteer Centre. His appointment to the Board will strengthen the ability of both organisations to work in partnership for the benefit of the voluntary organisations in Argyll. After the AGM there was a short Board meeting. The officers were appointed unanimously as Bill Dalziel, Chairman, David Price, Vice Chairman, Geraldine Day has responsibility for Finance matters and Jean Hodgson has responsibilities for Personnel issues.
