ARROCHAR & TARBET COMMUNITY CAMPUS is making progress
On the site of former Pier Car Park plans for our new Village Hall are taking shape - as we submit our Building Warrant
The Design Team are working up plans to go out to tender shortly, which will be a key stage in our site development .
In December 2004 the Arrochar and Tarbet Community Development Trust purchased the Pit Stop Diner with the aim of transforming it into a local community social business. The Trust have progressed with their principal objective of securing funding to build a new Community Hall on the main part of the former Pier Car & Bus Park site adjacent to the Pit Stop Diner.
Local fund raising efforts over a number of years allowed various design options to be prepared and refined through community consultation and advice from various interests. At the same time funding applications were prepared which were addressed to all the major funding bodies. The Big Lottery Fund agreed to offer us over £500k which was fantastic news as we continued to pursue other bodies which brought us over the budget target necessary to proceed in April 2008. An earlier appeal to the National Park for assistance in essential professional design fees in March allowed us to instruct the Architect to prepare a building warrant application.
The Arrochar & Tarbet Trust was established in June 2003 and currently has 10 directors with a reasonable skills base to ensure that development of the social business will be taken forward with confidence. Our backgrounds in a wide range of experience and professional occupations including the civil service, further education and business experience. The Trust’s commitment is to fulfil its key objectives as outlined in the diagram below: IMPROVE FACILITIESPromote Training and Employment Opportunities |

New Hall gets a huge boost with a significant grant from Argyll & Bute Council.
The sale of the former Outdoor Centre to the Army Cadets allowed the council to transfer the sale income, of over £300k, directly to the Village Hall fund.A marvellous boost to the fund which when added to other grants, including over £500k from the Big Lottery, allows the community to progress with their new building plans, which we hope will allow our hall to be completed by late 2009.
